Federal immigration officials are blasting a California mayor's warning about a raid by immigration agents. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officials said yesterday that agents have arrested 150 people, half of which had criminal backgrounds. But officials say agents are still looking for more than 860 others with criminal records who avoided capture after Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf made what ICE calls a reckless decision to warn about the impending raid.
ICE spokesman James Swab says immigration detainers lodged against several criminals them have been "repeatedly ignored. Instead they have been released back into the community to potentially reoffend."
Schaaf has issued a statement saying she doesn't regret putting out word last weekend. Oakland has declared itself a sanctuary city and refuses to cooperate with immigration officials. What the Trump administration SHOULD do is severely cut federal funds to the city of Oakland and see if Mayor Scaaf tune changes.
