(Providence, RI) -- The ACLU is appealing to the Rhode Island Superior Court a lower court ruling upholding the constitutionality of a Providence housing ordinance prohibiting more than three college students from living together in certain parts of the city. The ACLU sued in 2016 on behalf of four Johnson and Wales University students who were impacted by an ordinance passed by the city the previous year, which was due to concerns about the negative impact of student housing in certain neighborhoods. The ACLU noted in a press release that the Rhode Island Superior Court judge who upheld the ordinance had strong reservations about its effectiveness.
