(Warwick, RI) -- It's being widely reported that Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian will step down to become the director of the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority. Governor Gina Raimondo told WJAR-TV on Tuesday that she recommended Avedisian for the position to the RIPTA board, which is scheduled to discuss and possibly vote on the appointment of a new CEO on Wednesday. Avedisian himself has declined to confirm reports. He has served as Warwick mayor since 2000, the longest term in the city's history.
