Governor Rolls Out Attorney Reforms

(Providence, RI)  --  Governor Gina Raimondo is ordering a series of reforms to be implemented following a series of embarrassing incidents involving state lawyers. In the last week, attorneys in several departments have been faulted for missing deadlines that could cost taxpayers tens of millions of dollars. Starting next month, all attorneys who represent the state in any legal capacity will have to provide annual documentation that they are in good standing with the state Supreme Court and Bar Association, and the state's internal auditing office will also conduct random checks of employees who must hold certifications or licenses. The governor also is ordering her senior counsel to lead a complete review of all outstanding or pending litigation of over 100-thousand dollars and report the findings with a month.
