(Newport, RI) -- A gruesome animal discovery in Newport is being reported by the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The group says it found 18 cats and the remains of 26 more in a freezer at a home in the city on Wednesday. The surviving animals are being cared for by the Potter League for Animals in Middletown and the RISPCA in East Providence. The organization is not identifying the residents of the home where the discovery was made but says charges are pending.
