Pharmacy Tech Indicted Following Deadly Outbreak

(Boston, MA)  --  A Rhode Island man who worked at the pharmacy that was blamed for causing a deadly nationwide fungal meningitis outbreak is admitting to working as an unlicensed technician.  Scott Connolly of East Greenwich was one of 14 people indicted following the 2012 outbreak that was traced to medication packaged by the New England Compounding Center in Framingham, Massachusetts.  The U.S. Justice Department says Connolly entered a guilty plea on Friday to ten counts of mail fraud after prosecutors said he made solutions that are used to stop the hearts of patients during heart surgery, even though he had surrendered his license because of a disciplinary action.  Connolly is scheduled to be sentenced in December and will reportedly testify against others in the case.
