(East Greenwich, RI) -- A judge is blocking a proposal from the East Greenwich Town Council to restructure the town's fire department. The decision from Superior Court on Thursday indicates the town can't shift the department from four platoons to three until at least the next contract, saying it's a bargaining issue. The move would have led to a half-dozen positions being cut and the town was hoping it would address overtime issues. Town Council President Sue Cienki said in a statement that the town disagrees with the court's decision and is considering appealing.
