(Pawtucket, RI) -- The ACLU of Rhode Island wants the state attorney general and the Pawtucket police chief to conduct a thorough review of the department's training and practices following last week's deadly officer-involved shooting. The civil rights group points to published accounts indicating seven of the fourteen deadly police shootings in Rhode Island since 2006 have involved Pawtucket officers. The group says that's an alarming figure and points out that Providence, a larger city with more crime, has had two fatal shootings by police in the same time period. The last two fatal officer-involved shootings in Pawtucket were in 2016 and 2012.
