(Providence, RI) -- On the eve of a primary election, Governor Gina Raimondo announced on Tuesday that a competitive request for proposals will be issued this week to procure up to four-hundred megawatts of affordable renewable energy sources in Rhode Island. The RFP was developed by National Grid, the state Office of Energy Resources and the state Division of Public Utilities and Carriers. Raimondo originally directed state officials to work with utilities to seek the new energy source in February. The state also announced a four-hundred-megawatt offshore wind project this year to be headed by Providence-based Deepwater Wind.
