(Providence, RI) -- Unions representing courthouse workers are concerned about bed bugs at the Garrahy Judicial Complex, which houses Providence District Court and others. Pest control inspected the entire building last week and reportedly found several bugs on the fifth floor, where the family court is located, which was treated and two public benches were removed, according to a court spokesperson. However, since then, union officials say workers have reported seeing the insects on other floors of the building as well. AFSCME Rhode Island Council 94, which represents court clerks and deputy sheriffs, has filed a health and safety grievance over the issue and is requesting the courthouse be closed.
