(Providence, RI) -- U.S. Senate candidates Sheldon Whitehouse and Robert Flanders held their first televised debate on Tuesday. Shortly after the debate on WPRI-TV began, the Republican challenger Flanders went after the Democratic incumbent Whitehouse for his line of questioning during the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing for then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. The two also offered contrasting views on President Trump's job performance and discussed several other topics including the opioid abuse crisis.
