HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS

Halloween is less than a week away, and while trick or treating is bound to be a fun and exciting time for kids, it’s important to take precautions before they walk out the door to make sure everyone has a safe holiday.

Well, now the Red Cross has come out with some tips to keep your trick or treaters safe, and if you follow these rules everyone should have a fun and safe time begging for candy.

Tips include:

Make sure kids can be seen. Give them a flashlight to light their way, and add reflective tape to costumes and trick or treating bags. Try to get them to wear light colored clothing, and use makeup instead of masks to make it easier for kids to see.Use flame resistant costumes.Plan your route in advance so adults know where kids are going, and of course, an adult should accompany young children.Be cautions around animals.Walk don’t run.Only visit houses with a porch light, and never go in a house, only accept candy at the door.Walk on the sidewalk, not the street, and if there is no sidewalk, walk on the edge of the road, facing traffic, and don’t cut across yards and alleys. And drivers, be extra careful while driving.Make sure a grown up checks all candy before eating, getting rid of lose candy, open packages and choking hazards. Also get rid of brands you aren’t familiar with. For those welcoming trick or treaters, light your area well so young kids can see. Also, get rid of tripping hazards and obstacles in front of our home. Sweep leaves from sidewalks and steps.
