(Cranston, RI) -- Rhode Island House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello won a race for his home district seat. The Democratic candidate narrowly edged GOP challenger Steven Frias, 52-to-48-percent, in the House District 15 race in Cranston. Mattiello has faced scrutiny from within his own party this year, most recently for the handling of sexual harassment allegations against Judiciary Committee chair Cale Keable, who was defeated in his local race last night by Republican David Place. Nearly 20 Democrats in the House have gone on the record saying they wouldn't support Mattiello as continuing speaker if he were to be re-elected.
