(Warren, RI) -- A newly-elected state representative is owning up to the facts of a complaint filed against him to the state election board. Laufton Ascencao issued a statement on Tuesday saying he committed to sending a mailer in support of Democratic candidates in Warren, but said he didn't finish it in time. He says he told the candidates the mailer did go out and provided a fake invoice as proof. Ascencao says it was a stupid and immature thing to do, but despite calls from the Democratic committee in Warren for him to not take his House District 68 seat, he indicated in his statement that he still plans to be sworn in.
