(Providence, RI) -- A boxing champion was arrested in Providence on Thursday for allegedly carrying a gun without a permit. The Providence Police Department said a pistol and ammo were found in a bag inside the car of Demetrius Andrade after they saw him blocking traffic on Coggeshall Street overnight Thursday. Andrade reportedly told officers he carried the weapon for protection because of his fame and wealth. He holds the World Boxing Organization's middleweight championship.
