(Boston, MA) -- The Federal Trade Commission is approving the proposed takeover by Boston-based Partners HealthCare over Care New England, Rhode Island's second-largest hospital system. Partners officials say the next step is filing for state approval in Rhode Island, where a fast-track review has already been promised. Partners first announced plans to buy Care New England about a year-and-a-half ago. CNE owns Women and Infants, Kent and Butler hospitals, as well as the currently-closed Memorial Hospital.
