TRUMP NEEDS TO LIGHTEN UP

President Trump apparently wasn't a fan of Saturday Night Live's latest Trump-related skit this weekend, which was a take-off on the classic Christmas movie, It's a Wonderful Life, tweeting on Sunday morning  that the justice system should go after the iconic late-night show. Trump tweeted: "A REAL scandal is the one sided coverage, hour by hour, of networks like NBC & Democrat spin machines like Saturday Night Live. It is all nothing less than unfair news coverage and Dem commercials. Should be tested in courts, can’t be legal? Only defame & belittle! Collusion?” However, a legal case against SNL like Trump called for would be unlikely to go anywhere, since parody has been legally found to be protected by the First Amendment. In the skit Saturday, Trump -- played by Alec Baldwin -- says at its start, "It’s awful, everything is falling apart, sometimes I wish I’d never been president," and is then visited by Clarence the angel, who shows him what the world would be like if he'd never been elected president. At a holiday party in that alternate reality, people including Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Counselor Kellyanne Conway, Trump's sons Don Jr. and Eric and wife Melania, his former attorney Michael Cohen, Vice President Mike Pence, Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, and Special Counsel Robert Mueller happily talk about how their lives are better without Trump having been elected. Trump learns the wrong message, however, saying at the end, "I guess the world does need me to be president after all."

SNL has ALWAYS been about anti establishment comedy. Chevy Chase made his chops as a bumbling, stumbling Gerald Ford, Dana Carvey played George Bush the elder, something the senior Bush found funny, Dan Akroyd mimicked Jimmy Carter and Phil Hartman Ronald Regan. Poking fun at prosidents has been a staple of the show since its inception.
