(Providence, RI) -- Rhode Island's House and Senate leaders were re-elected to new terms on Tuesday. House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello was elected to a third term with 47 votes, all from Democrats, while 19 other Democrats who have been critics of Mattiello abstained. There were anti-Mattiello protesters who made their voices heard in the State House during the proceedings. Senate President Dominick Ruggerio was also re-elected, with less controversy.
