(Providence, RI) -- The Providence Journal reports there was no Providence City Council meeting held on Thursday because of absenteeism. Only six members attended, two short of a quorum. Councilwoman Sabina Matos, who is expected to be elected as the next council president, asked current president David Salvatore earlier this week to cancel the meeting in deference to newly-elected council members who will be sworn in next week, but Salvatore declined.
