House Rules Committee Meeting Is Well-Attended

(Providence, RI)  --  Efforts are continuing for a change of rules for the legislative process in the Rhode Island House.  A House Rules Committee meeting was packed on Tuesday by the public and members of the Reform Caucus, a group of Democrats who last week put forward a list of suggested changes.  They included: making it easier for lawmakers to force a vote on bills being held up in committees, making it harder for the House rules to be suspended at the end of the legislative session, which leads to voting marathons, and also for there to be at least a 48-hour window to review new language in a bill.  A new version of the House rules, set for a vote by the committee on Thursday, would require at least 24 hours after a bill is amended before it's voted on.
