(Smithfield, RI) -- One person is under arrest for a hit-and-run crash involving a Rhode Island Department of Transportation snow plow on Saturday night. The Smithfield Police Department says Jose Ruiz of Cranston faces charges including driving under the influence, fleeing from police and driving unlicensed after the crash on Putnam Pike in North Providence. The police department says Ruiz is now in the custody of immigration agents who reached out and said Ruiz was in the country illegally.
