(South Kingstown, RI) -- A man accused of causing the death of his girlfriend by driving drunk and crashing is being sentenced to one decade in prison. Scott Gavitt, who was 18 when the deadly crash happened in 2016, was sentenced on Monday in Washington County Superior Court after pleading no contest to several DUI charges. The wreck on Route 2 in Exeter killed 17-year-old Heidi Malstrom, a senior at Chariho High School, and also caused serious injuries to a second passenger.
