(Providence, RI)--State legislation mandating suicide-prevention training in public schools is being held for further study. The bill was taken up in both the House and Senate Education Committees on Wednesday. It is named after 15-year-old Nathan Bruno, a Portsmouth High School student who took his own life last year; Bruno's father was among those who testified in support, and a group of Portsmouth students were in attendance to push for passage. The National Education Association of Rhode Island expressed concerns about language in the bill, but not against the legislation as a whole.
