McDonald's In Austria Will Double As U.S. Embassies

Americans traveling in Austria who lose their passport will now be able to head to a McDonald’s to get the help they need. Sounds strange, but the U.S. State Department has worked out a deal with McDonald’s in the European country to assist U.S. citizens “in distress” or those whose passports have been lost or stolen.

Now if that happens, Americans can head to one of the 194 Mickey D’s in Australia, where staff will have special access to a 24-hour hotline to the U.S. embassy. So they can polish off some fries while they get in touch with the embassy at the golden arches.
