(Cranston, RI)--An ACI correctional officer is being charged with assaulting a handcuffed inmate.A report from the Rhode Island State Police says Mark Denis of Rehoboth, Massachusetts was arrested on Tuesday on a simple assault charge.RISP says Denis hit the maximum-security unit inmate in the face with his hand while the inmate was awaiting a disciplinary proceeding.The inmate reportedly was not seriously injured and did not require medical treatment.Denis is on paid administrative leave.
