When you work in a subjective field like acting, it’s important to know what casting directors think of you.Tiffany Haddish had an ingenious way to find out.
“I'd put my phone on voice memo and put it in my bag. I'd do the audition, walk out the room and leave my bag,” the comedienne revealed. “Then I'd come back and be like, ‘Oh, I forgot my purse in there.’” Some of the statements she heard included:
- “She is not as urban as I thought she would be.”
- “She's so ghetto, I just can't.”
- “Her boobs aren't big enough.”
- “I really think we should just go with a white girl. This role should be changed to white.”
Tiffany was among the seven comedic actresses who’re gracing the cover of The Hollywood Reporter’s Comedy Actress Roundtable. Others in attendance included Jane Fonda,Alex Borstein,Regina Hall,Natasha Lyonne,Maya Rudolph, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
