Isabella Brazier-Jones is a 28-year-old British woman that quit her job and spent close to $4,400 on flights, rental cars, and lodging so she could explore the United States with her best friend for a few months. As she tells it, those plans were thwarted..because of a text message.
When she landed at LAX in early March, Jones says she was invited into a “back room” by immigration officials. From there, she says they confiscated the gear she’d brought with her and the dug through her phone. It was there where they hit pay-dirt…a text message from 2017 with the word “cocaine” in it. HOLY CRAP!!!!
When the message was discovered, the officials pointed it out to her and asked if she’d ever used the drug, to which she replied, “yes.” A mere 31-hours after first landing on American soil, she was put back onto an airplane accompanied by two armed escorts for a trip back to the UK. She says she’s also been banned from coming back to the U.S. for ten years. Her friend, Olivia, however, was told she was free to stay if she chose to.
When asked for a comment about the case, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Department of Homeland Security, the British Consulate in Los Angeles, and Norwegian Airlines all declined. Check your phones, people, whatever’s in there might get you booted next!
