(Providence, RI)--Bills concerning opioid abuse and education reform have been signed into law by Governor Gina Raimondo.The opioid bills limit first-time prescriptions, place warning signs in pharmacies about the dangers of the drugs and remove a potential barrier to possession of life-saving anti-opioid prescriptions.One of the education bills requires the education commissioner to develop statewide academic standards and curriculum frameworks for the core subjects of math, English language arts, and science and technology.The second requires the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to establish a fast-track program to certify new principals.Other new laws announced yesterday affect the elderly and disabled, service animals, and hair-braiding.
