While many of us look forward to, and count the days until our next vacation, there are plenty of people who aren’t so lucky. That’s because, according to a new survey, there are a lot of people who aren’t taking any vacations at all.
A new Allianz survey finds that 36% of Americans haven’t taken a vacation (defined as a leisure trip of at least a week to a destination 100 miles or more away from home) in more than two years, while 51% haven’t taken time off in more than a year. What’s more, only 42% of people say they are confident they’ll take a vacation this summer, the lowest percentage since 2013.
So, why are so many people skipping vacations? Well, not surprisingly, the biggest reason is finances, with 44% of folks saying they don’t have the money to spend on vacation, and another 19% saying they don’t want to spend the money on a getaway. In addition, of those who say they aren’t sure they’ll take a vacation this summer, 20% site personal obligations, while 12% say it’s because they don’t want to take off work, and 10% say planning a vacation is too stressful.
