While these days it may seem like most people are too busy reading tweets to read books, a new survey finds that there are plenty of folks who still enjoy a good book, and many are actually reading physical copies.
According to a new Pew Research poll, 72% of Americans say they have read a book in the past 12 months, with Americans reading, on average, 12 books a year, although the typical person has read four in the past twelve months.
The most popular format for which people are reading books is print, with 65% of Americans having read a print book in the past year. In fact, 37% of people say they only read print books. Surprisingly, only 25% of Americans are e-book readers, with 28% of those people also reading print books, and only 7% only reading e-books. Gaining in popularity are audio books, with 20% of folks audiobook fans, up from 14% a year ago.
- Interestingly, the survey notes that men are the only demographic that seems to have lost a little interest in reading. The poll finds 67% of men say they have read a book in the past 12 months, which is a decrease from 73% last year.
