McConnell: Senate Would Have No Choice, But To Take Up Impeachment

Any questions about Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell going ahead with an impeachment trial have been answered. In an interview with CNBC, McConnell says he thinks the Senate “would have no choice” but to hold an impeachment trial if the House votes to impeach President Trump.

There has been speculation that McConnell might try to delay or block an impeachment trial in the Senate, but McConnell says that Senate rules on impeachment are clear. House Democrats have launched an official impeachment inquiry into the President. Still, McConnell is accusing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of ignoring other important matters while harassing Trump and trying to get him out of office.

In turn, Pelosi has argued that there's a stack of House-passed bills on McConnell's desk that he has refused to put on the Senate floor, including a measure expanding gun background checks. McConnell also suggested that House Dems will pay a price in next year's elections.
