Facebook’s freedom just took a little hit.
The European Court of Justice has ruled that if a court tells them too, Facebook must remove illegal content globally. The ruling comes after a politician from Austria’s Green party sued the social media platform over comments posted by a user that she claimed were harmful to her reputation.
The court also ruled that the social media giant isn’t liable for stored information it doesn’t know about or if it acts quickly to remove or hide inappropriate content quickly.
Facebook says this type of decision is a threat to freedom of expression.
