Chaos As Mixed Messages About Iraq Pullout Come Out Of Pentagon

Are they or aren’t they? Defense Secretary Mark Esper is denying reports that the U.S. is pulling troops from Iraq after the airstrike that killed a top Iranian general. Speaking with reporters at the Pentagon, Esper said the U.S. has made "no decision whatsoever to leave Iraq."

This comes after a few media outlets reported that roughly five-thousand troops would leave the region, according to a letter from the top U.S. Commander in Iraq. Esper debunked the reporters by saying "I don't know what that letter is," adding that the U.S. is still committed to countering the Islamic State in Iraq.

So what gives? Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley says *that* letter was a draft that was accidentally released. “It was a mistake. It was unsigned,” he told reporters. “It should not have been released.”
