(Providence, RI)--The Raimondo administration is seeking state government employees to volunteer for furlough days. The "WorkShare" program, announced Wednesday, would have those volunteers rely on unemployment benefits on the days they don't work; because of the extra federal unemployment being provided due to coronavirus relief, officials said yesterday those who sign up for the program could actually earn more. The goal is to chip away at Rhode Island's eight-hundred-million-dollar budget hole for fiscal years '20 and '21 caused by the virus pandemic. The governor said yesterday there will undoubtedly be extensive furloughs and layoffs without additional federal help.
