Governor Gina Raimondo is encouraging all Rhode Islanders to get their flu shot this fall. The governor said in her weekly press conference that her goal is for every adult to be vaccinated this year, in hopes of avoiding a widespread flu outbreak which would burden an already taxed health care system. Raimondo says the state has ordered 150,000 more flu shots this year than past years. Shots will be available through health care providers within the next two weeks.
The governor and Education Commissioner Angelica Infante-Green say that school districts across the state are ready for the targeted opening date of next Monday, September 14th. While some districts are opening with distance learning, or a mix of distance and in-person learning, COVID-19 tests will be available for all students and staff who required one. Raimondo says at least 5,000 tests per day will be available to the K-12 education system. Tests will be conducted at 12 testing sites. The list of sites will be released on Friday 9/11.
