COVID-19 UPDATE: Governor Limits Social Gatherings to 10 People

Governor Gina Raimondo announced on Friday new regulations regarding social gatherings. At a press briefing, the governor encouraged Rhode Islanders to "hunker down" and "dial back" social gatherings over the next two weeks. Here is a summary of the guidelines and regulations announced:

  • Social gathering limit is reduced to 10 people (formerly 15)
    • Residents encouraged to commit to socializing with only the same 10 people over the next two weeks.
  • No fans allowed at any sports events for the next two weeks
  • Indoor sports facilities and ice rinks must close for one week beginning Monday 11/2.
  • Faith leaders encouraged to offer virtual options for faith gatherings
  • Nursing homes and hospitals encouraged to scale back on visitation for the next two weeks. Details to be announced next week. State is working with facilities to develop new guidelines.
  • Employers encouraged to allow more employees to work from home.
  • Car pooling discouraged. If you must car pool, wear a mask, and open windows whenever possible.
  • $5 million is being made available to assist businesses to allow employees to work from home.
  • Halloween - Parents and children encouraged to Trick or Treat before dark.
  • RI State Police presence will be tripled over Halloween weekend, specifically for the purpose of looking for parties and large social gatherings.
