Providence Hopes Bonus Moves New Teachers To Classrooms

Providence Public Schools are offering newly hired members of the Providence Teachers Union a one time signing bonus of 25-hundred-dollars.

An extra 25-hundred-dollar bonus is available for fully certified middle and high school, math and science teachers, as well as Special Ed teachers and those who are bilingual.

In addition, un-certified substitute teachers will now be paid a rate of 200-dollars a day. Certified substitute teachers will make up to 244-dollars a day.

Education officials tell us that the program does come with a caveat. If a new teacher, who gets a bonus does not make it through a year of teaching, that person will have to pay the bonus money back.
