Nelson Cruz and Randy Arozarena hit home runs for Tampa Bay. Arozarena was also able to steal home off Red Sox reliever Josh Taylor.
Eduardo Rodriguez started the game for Boston and allowed a pair of runs in an inning-and-two-thirds.
Nick Pivetta allowed three runs in four-and-two-thirds of relief.
The Rays will look to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the series in Game Two when Shane Baz gets the ball against Chris Sale.
