A coronavirus outbreak is forcing the latest class of the Rhode Island Municipal Police Training Academy to wrap things up early.
The RI State Police says seven recruits contracted the virus, but none have been hospitalized and almost all are without symptoms.
The recruits had three days remaining in a twenty-week course and will receive their certificates.
State police officials say the difficult decision was made to cancel the graduation ceremony out of an abundance of caution.
That news came in the aftermath of a new status report on the pandemic which showed another thousand new cases of the virus and one new fatality.
