Governor Dan McKee has delievered his first State of the State address declaring that the state was strong and had many opportunities for growth and success. It was his first address since becoming governor last March when Gina Raimondo left for a cabinet job in the Biden administration.
"Rhode Island is in a different place today with this pandemic than we were a year ago – and that’s because we came together as one state – one team – all 39 cities and towns, and never lost hope. We’ve made this progress because of you. So, to each and every one of you, thank you. It’s because of you, Rhode Island, that I can stand here before you tonight with confidence and say that the state of our state is resilient and full of opportunity."
The Governor says the state will devote more money to healthcare and housing as well as business retention.
McKee has not yet announced if he'll seek election to a full term later this year. Five other Democrats have already announced their candidacies for the party nomination.
