The Warwick City Council is asking the state for a little heads-up in the future.
The Council passed a measure that would require the state to notify a local city or town if it were going to use a property for a different purpose that it was zoned for.
At issue was the contract that was signed between NYLO Providence Warwick Hotel and Crossroads Rhode Island.
That hotel, without city knowledge was then used for the homeless during the pandemic.
Residents of the city say their lives have been turned upside down because of the increase in homeless in their neighborhoods.
The State Legislature will have to vote on the measure.
There has been no indication as to when that might happen.
