Rhode Island law currently forbids happy hours, but the state legislature is now considering a bill to change that.
Happy hours are when bars and restaurants sell drinks at discount prices.
They were outlawed in Rhode Island in the mid-1980s over concerns they were contributing to drunk-driving.
The legislation proposed by state Representative Karen Alzate would require patrons to also order a full meal.
Alzate says the bill, which is scheduled to be considered at the State House on Tuesday, aims to help the restaurant industry recover from the pandemic.
Governor McKee has not weighed in on the measure yet.
