Gov: FEMA Team Extension Request -- More National Guard Teams To Hospitals

The Governor is expanding the National Guard in support of ten Rhode Island hospitals across the state. The Governor says the expansion is in addition to the units that have been put in place at Butler Hospital.

“I am truly grateful to General Callahan and the National Guard for their consistent support in this effort and throughout the pandemic,” said Governor McKee. “This is the result of weeks of close coordination between my office, the Rhode Island National Guard, the Rhode Island Department of Health, the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency and local hospital leadership and is an important part of our strategy to support hospital staffing.”

The Governor says the additional units will be in place at ten hospitals and will provide security, transportation and other non medical actions.

In addition, the Governor says he will be asking FEMA to keep specialized units at two hospitals. The Governor says he is trying to expanding hospital beds at a time where there is a continued demand because of covid and its variants.
