Providence Gets New Permanent School Boss

Providence finally has a new school boss.

Dr Javier Montanez, (left in photo) who was the Interim School Superintendent has been selected to head the school system. He will serve through the end of the 2023-24 school year.

The Doctor says he is still reviewing data but will make a decision soon as to whether the mask mandate within the school system will be ended. Providence is one of only a couple of school systems in the state with a mandate still in place.

Montanez says he has been auditioning for the job throughout his career. First as a classroom teacher and then up through the ranks as a principal and then as an administrator.

He says that he will continue the quest to move the school system into a world class education setting for kids.

Not everyone is thrilled with the appointment. Although the group Community First is wishing the new superintendent well, they have also expressed reservations about the hiring process that was used.
