Firefighters in Ukraine will be suited up in gear from firefighters in Rhode Island.
North Smithfield Fire Department has coordinated an effort to collect old gear and equipment to give to Ukraine as it defends itself against Russia's invasion.
Fire Chief David Chartier says the idea came after reading a story out of New Jersey from one of the fire departments and thought that his department should do its part as well.
Other departments from across the state joined in.
North Smithfield Fire says the gear is has gone first to Poland, then will be given to Ukraine.
