RI Makes Gains In Jobs- As Unemployment Falls

Rhode Island saw another good jobs report with word that the rate fell to 2.9 percent in May. The rate fell to under 3 percent for the first time in 30 years.

The rate dropped 3 tenths of one point. The rate was six percent in May of last year.

Governor McKee was pleased with the latest numbers.

“We have the lowest unemployment rate the state has seen in decades, and we’ve continued to bring back jobs at a steady rate. In fact, we’ve recovered nearly 90 percent of all the jobs lost during the pandemic shutdown. This momentum is reflective of the work and policies our Administration has prioritized. Let’s continue this commitment to make Rhode Island’s economy the strongest it’s been in years.”

More people than ever before are employed with 553 thousand- up about 26 hundred.

More jobs were created in the administrative sector. Educational services increased as well. Jobs in the Arts and Entertainment also increased.

The state’s economy also so some relatively good news. The report showed that manufacturing jobs were paying about 24 dollars an hour. That’s up about 17 cents an hour from April. Its $2.39 an hour from May of 2021.

On the national level the Unemployment Rate was 3.6 percent –unchanged from the previous report.
