Block Island Residents Concerned With Drinking Trends

Block Islanders are expressing concerns about the level of public drunkenness this summer.

They say it is perhaps worse this year than it has ever been before and that people are being over served and are drinking without having to face any consequences. They say it has to stop now.

It's apparently been fueled by underage drinking.

Bars are being warned to comply with ID checks, as a recent sting revealed a half-dozen locations failed to ask for verification of age.

A member of the New Shoreham Town Council says he recently observed some businesses were closed because of drunken hooliganism.
