State Bans PFAS From Fast Food Containers

Two new laws have been enacted in Rhode Island to protect against a concerning contaminant.

Beginning in 2024, fast food wrappers and other materials cannot contain P-F-A-S substances.

According to a state officials research into the effects of PFAS is still emerging, but the most potent risk from being exposed comes from consuming contaminated water or food.

Nine other states, including New England neighbors Connecticut, Maine, and Vermont, have similar laws.

Another bill signed by the Rhode Island governor allows the state health department to establish maximum PFAS contaminant levels in drinking water.
