A school bus driver strike has been averted in Rhode Island.
A tentative new contract was announced Tuesday for nearly three-hundred First Student workers who belong to Local 1199 of the SEIU.
The strike that was scheduled to start Wednesday has been postponed, pending a successful vote by the bus drivers, monitors and aides on a new four-year contract which includes a wage increase and a higher minimum amount of guaranteed hours.
This would have impacted public schools in Cranston, Lincoln and West Warwick.
There has been no date for a ratification vote set.
