Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee has been elected to his first full term in the office.
McKee was promoted from the position of lieutenant governor last year when Gina Raimondo left to become President Biden's Commerce Secretary.
The Democrat defeated Republican challenger Ashley Kalus with nearly 60 percent of the vote.
The current lieutenant governor for McKee, Sabina Matos, also won her race yesterday, and his attorney general Peter Neronha will serve a second term as well.
McKee during his victory address last night challenged the state to do better in education.
He said by the year 2030 that the state would match or exceed the standards that Massachusetts has set.
Kalus said she got into the race nine months ago to advocate for the state, that it was the best state to live in the country,
She said that she highlighted problems that hopefully will be solved.
She said that she wished Governor McKee all the best.
She added that everyone should be behind him because his success will mean success for Rhode Island.
